Sharon Lavigne Joins Vietnamese Friends in Taiwan to Protest Formosa Plastics

Environmental Justice Advocate Sharon Lavigne of St. James, LA travels to Taiwan to join Vietnamese victims of Formosa Plastics pollution in communities of color and low wealth. (Watch video) Sharon will tell us about her community’s efforts to stop pollution by Formosa and other corporations in Louisiana during our October 24 webinar (register here).

Portuguese Youth vs. European Court of Human Rights

In a landmark case on Sept. 27, six Portuguese youth plaintiffs from areas affected by wildfires took 32 European countries to court. “The applicants argue inaction to tackle climate change threatens their rights including to life, physical and mental wellbeing.” (Via Reuters)

Landmark Climate Case in Montana

A Montana judge recently sided with young environmental activists who said state agencies were violating their constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment by permitting fossil fuel development without considering its effect on the climate. (Via NY Times)

Fuel Efficient Vehicles: Our country's 286 million passenger vehicles are a major contributor to climate pollution. This year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has the opportunity to propose new federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for vehicles sold in 2027 and beyond.

Protect Chaco Canyon: The Energy Opportunities for All Act (HR 4374), has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. This Act would allow new federal oil and gas leasing within 10 miles of Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Write your Representative, urging them to oppose HR 4374.
