Your voice is urgently needed today! The House of Representatives recently voted to pass a package of cuts, called rescissions, that were requested by the White House. H.R. 4 cancels $9.4 billion in previously approved federal funding. The Senate is expected to vote this week. This is the first of many rescissions packages expected to eliminate even more life saving international assistance programs and funding for public media. Your voice can make a difference!
Countless lives are at risk. This package proposes cancelling over $9 billion in funding, approved by both Republicans and Democrats in March, for programming focused on supporting pregnant mothers and their children, providing emergency food, preventing infectious diseases and ensuring children, families and communities can move out of poverty over the long-term.At this very same moment, Congress is also assessing support for lifesaving aid in the fiscal year 2026 federal budget. Approving this new package of cuts would signal approval for shrinking or eliminating funding for international poverty-reducing programs in future budgets.
Public media is more at risk now than ever before. Despite overwhelming public opposition, the rescissions package would eliminate $1.1 billion in already-approved funding for public media. If enacted, it would strip essential services from communities nationwide — and could force rural stations off the air entirely. The bill would also cancel federal support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System.
Urge the Senate to push back and oppose canceling funding for lifesaving international assistance programs and public media.
